Southern Tailors Brings Back Sports History: A Long-Lost Giants Flag Will Surprise a Young Man This Christmas
October 19, 2017
Atlanta, GA - (PRWEB – 10/19/2017 6:00 AM EST) - It all started with an interesting email that was sent to Southern Tailors, a fabric imaging company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. In the email, a man requested information about a San Francisco Giants flag
that may have been made by Southern Tailors sometime between 1983 and 1993.
Neal A. Zucker, owner of Southern Tailors Fabric Imaging, was intrigued by the email and took the time to follow up on the interesting inquiry. Little did he know that the story that was about to unfold was, to say the least, inspiring.
A father and son, both San Francisco Giants fans, attended an Atlanta Braves game earlier this season. While at the stadium, the son wanted a flag from a used memorabilia shop and asked his father if he would buy it for him. That particular flag had been displayed above Turner Field, but it was taken down when the Braves moved to Sun Trust Park. Unfortunately, his dad couldn't afford it at the time, so he had to say no.
After giving it some thought, he decided to contact the Braves towards the end of the season to check if they still had it, and if they would sell it at a price he could afford so he could surprise his son on Christmas morning. But he was sad to learn that they didn't have the flag anymore.
Surprisingly, the Braves contacted him a few days later to let him know they had found another flag from a previous season that was available for sale. They sent him a picture of the flag, but they couldn't offer any additional information about it. However, they authenticated it with the MLB hologram as property of the Atlanta Braves. So he decided to buy it.
The man, who preferred to remain anonymous to avoid ruining the surprise, explained in a follow-up email that after looking at the picture of the flag, something "did not look right about [it], and it kept me up all night wondering."
The dad had done some research and found that the lettering and logo was only used by the Giants from 1983 to 1993. That meant that the flag he purchased was never flown at Turner Field as he originally thought, but rather at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, making the flag over 20 years old!
The man decided to contact Southern Tailors after seeing the company's name on the flag and finding its website on Google. He wanted to see if they could provide any additional information about the flag he had purchased.
The current owner of Southern Tailors Fabric Imaging, Neal A. Zucker, took a special interest in the email. He had acquired the company around the time the flag was made and was able to provide some additional information about it. The Braves had ordered flags of National League teams from Southern Tailors on several occasions. He offered the excited dad images of the art and work order to go with the Christmas surprise.
"It is not every day that we receive an inquiry about a flag that was made two decades ago. To say that the email we received about this San Francisco Giant's flag was interesting is an understatement. We were happy to be part of such a thoughtful gift from a father to a son while reminiscing on the way things were done at the time. We couldn't be happier, and we can't wait to hear about the young boy's reaction to the gift. We have encouraged his dad to keep us up to date with the surprise,"
said Neal A. Zucker, owner of Southern Tailors Fabric Imaging.
